Centro Cultural Aztlan has produced and presented the annual Segundo de Febrero exhibit since 1977 in an effort to preserve Mexican American history and culture. This exhibit commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and focuses on the ever-ongoing Mexican American experience in the United States. After the ending of the U.S. Mexican war borders lines were redistributed and populations with dual identities, history, culture, life experiences and traditions were established. This exhibit seeks to bring forth those experiences and their impact on the what shapes us as a country.

Centro Cultural Aztlanis pleased to present the 15th annual Mujeres de Aztlan exhibition, titled Mujeres de Aztlan: Persistent and Resilient.
Through this annual exhibition, Centro Cultural Aztlan aims to raise the visibility of women artists working to develop their careers and expand their artistic expressions.
This year’s exhibition focuses on the resilience and persistence of women. These qualities, which seem to be innate to women, are used by women across the globe to address and change the range of gender specific obstacles we face. Resilience makes us stronger as life changes. We develop discernment through experience, mistakes, and hard knocks. We become fearless and adapt to continual change. Women have the persistence to make societal changes such as gaining the right to vote, gaining recognition of female artists, and equal pay for some female athletes. Artists are encouraged to express their unique perspective on these qualities of women. The lead artist for this exhibition is Kathleen Baker Pittman.

This exhibit will honor the 175th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the U.S.-Mexican War, redistributing the border, and creating a new bicultural population. In this exhibition, an exceptional group of celebrated artists will explore the impact of broken treaties, new borders, and their effects on Latino, Chicano, and indigenous history and culture.
